Thursday Movie Series:
– The Magician Ingmar Bergman The Swedish director freely re-interprets Chesterton’s Magic in a film that challenges commonsense understanding of reality. Thursday, 26th February, 19:00
– Wise Blood Flannery O’Connor & John Huston With an introduction by Prof. William Desmond (KU Leuven) Inspired by Flannery O’Connor’s novel, the film tells of the vicissitudes that beset the veteran “Haze” in his plan to found the Church of Truth Without Christ in the American Deep South. Thursday, 26th March, 19:00
– The movies will be projected in the Sint-Kwintenhuis (Naamsestraat 163), with snacks and discussions to follow. Participation is free; voluntary donations are welcome.

Weekly events:  Wednesdays, 1 PM: Meet for lunch (bring/buy your own) at ALMA 1 (Tiensestraat). Thursdays, 6 PM: Mass with the Anglophone community at St. Kwinten’s Church (Naamsestraat 160).

Semester Calendar:

Thursday, 25 September, 6 PM: Mass followed by open doors at STUK. After the 6 PM Mass at St. Kwinten’s we will walk up the street to the STUK cultural center to take advantage of their Opening Festival (free admission!). Join us for Mass or meet us at STUK.

Thursday, 9 October, 6 PM: Mass for the Feast Day of Bl. John Henry Newman, St. Kwinten’s Church. Dinner to follow.

Wednesday, 29 October, 6 PM: Prof. Em. Rev. Martin MOORS (Philosophy) will discuss John Paul II’s encyclical Fides et RatioLocation: the Raadzaal of the HIW (Institute of Philosophy; main building directly opposite gate, up the stairs one floor & to the left).

Woensdag, 12 November, 14 u.: Prof. Joris GELDHOF zal over “Lege symboliek of ultieme realiteit? Naar een metafysica van de sacramenten” spreken. Plaats: de Salons van het HIW (Hoger Instituut voor Wijsbegeerte; eerste gebouw binnen de porte, linke kant, gelijkvloers, links).

Wednesday, 3 December, 2 PM: Rev. Hans TERCIC (docent at the Johannes XXIII seminary in Leuven) on “The Complex Reality of the Threefold Office of the Church”. Location: Aud. B of the HIW (Institute of Philosophy; main building directly opposite gate, next to the library).

SPRING 2013

15 March, “Ignatius for Everybody: How to Include the Spiritual Exercises in your Day,” by Fr. Robert Faesen, S.J. The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius officially take weeks to complete. Fr. Faesen will give types on how to incorporate these exercises in your daily routine. Mass begins at 6pm at St. Kwinten’s. The talk follows across the street in the Kwintenshuis. ALL ARE WELCOME!

FALL 2012

26 October, “St. Thomas Aquinas and the Virtue of Prudence,” by Fr. David Goodill O.P. Fr David will explain the central importance of the virtue of prudence in St Thomas’s Aquinas’ vision of the Christian life. The relationship between conscience and prudence in St Thomas will be explored, and prudence will be distinguished from modern ideas of efficiency. In particular we will examine why for St Thomas it is never prudent to do that which is wrong. After the 5:30 Mass at the American College (approx. 6:15 pm). Between Mass and the talk, refreshments will be served. ALL ARE WELCOME!

30 November, “The Sacrament of Penance and the New Evangelization,” by Fr. Idahosa Amadasu.  Fr. Idahosa will discuss the central importance of the sacrament of penance in the pastoral activities of the Church.  He will share some of the theological and cultural challenges to responding to the invitation of the Bishops and will suggest ways in which this vital sacrament can be rediscovered today. After the 5:30 Mass at the American College (approx. 6:15 pm). Between Mass and the talk, refreshments will be served. ALL ARE WELCOME!

21 December, “The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius for Every Day,” by Fr. Robert Faesen S.J. More details are to come for this talk on Ignatian Spirituality. After the 5:30 Mass at the American College (approx. 6:15 pm) ALL ARE WELCOME!

11 April 8:15pmBEETHOVEN’s 3rd Symphony and Violin Concerto in D at the Pieter de Somer Aula, Leuven. For details, go HERE. The 3rd symphony (Eroica) is considered by many to be the first “modern” symphony….a great opportunity!

23 March, 7pm: Mass and Discussion Night, at the American College. A talk given by Sr. Timothy Prokes on “St. Theresa of Avila: Doctor of Prayer and Perennial Wisdom.” The talk will be preceded by the Stations of the Cross in the chapel of the American College.

IN PREPARATION FOR CHRISTMAS… Dec. 16, 7pm: Mass and Discussion Night, “The Word Became Flesh: the Scandal of the Incarnation” a talk given by Fr. Thomas Gricoski O.S.B. at the American College. Mass starts at 7pm, followed by Fr. Thomas’ talk. Dec. 7, 8pm: Palais de Beaux Arts, Brussels, Beethoven and Saint Saens played by the highly touted German violinist Julia Fischer. More information HERE. Nov. 25, 7pm, ACL: Mass and Discussion Night. “The Virtues and Spiritual Combat: Engaging Our Own Desert,” a talk given by Fr. Troy Schneider. The talk will be held at the American College on the Naamsestraat. The talk and discussion will follow immediately after mass, which begins at 7pm in the chapel with, of course, some wine and nibbles.  Nov. 17-18: VENITE ADOREMUS: Come participate in the 12 hour eucharistic adoration in the heart of Leuven! The LNS has agreed to keep watch from 10pm-11pm.
